Legislators in the Philippines have voted overwhelmingly to extend martial law to deal with an Islamist insurgency in the restive island of Mindanao. Militants linked to so-called Islamic State have been occupying parts of Marawi, a city in the south, since May. At least 547 young members of the Regensburger Domspatzen boys choir in Germany were subjected to physical and in some instances sexual abuse over a period of 60 years, a new report says. The report accuses 49 members of the Catholic Church of carrying out the abuse between 1945 and the early 1990s. A shrinking glacier in Switzerland has revealed two frozen bodies believed to be of a couple who went missing 75 years ago, Swiss media report. দেশের রাজনৈতিক পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে সন্তোষ-অসন্তোষের মাত্রা প্রায় কাছাকাছি। তবে বর্তমান অর্থনৈতিক পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে সন্তুষ্ট বেশির ভাগ তরুণ। তাতে অবশ্য ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে চিন্তাভাবনাহীন নয় তারা। দেশের বড় ধরনের অর্থনৈতিক উন্নতিতেও চাকরির বাজারে ঢুকলে কাজ পাওয়ার বিষয়ে খুব একটা আশাবাদী নয় তরুণেরা। তারুণ্য জরিপ অনুযায়ী, প্রায় ৭৪ শতাংশ তরুণ দেশের অর্থনৈতিক পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে সন্তুষ্ট। কিন্তু তারপরেও ভবিষ্যৎ কর্মক্ষেত্র নিয়ে ভরসা করতে পারছে না ৮২ শতাংশের বেশি তরুণ। প্রবৃদ্ধি বাড়লেও কর্মসংস্থানের যথেষ্ট সুযোগ তৈরি না হওয়ায় এবং বিশ্বব্যাপী অর্থনীতির যে মন্দা, তাতে তারা নিজেদের নিয়ে খুব আশাবাদী হতে পারছে না।আবার জরিপে অংশ নেওয়া তরুণদের ৬৩ শতাংশই বলছে, তারা জানে না তাদের জীবনের লক্ষ্য কী। দেশের দুর্নীতি নিয়ে তারা চিন্তিত, দেশের আইনকানুন নিয়ে আছে তাদের উদ্বেগ, এমনকি ব্যক্তিগত নিরাপত্তা নিয়েও তরুণেরা চিন্তিত। ৫৬ দশমিক ৪ শতাংশ তরুণ উদ্বিগ্ন তাদের নিজেদের নিরাপত্তা নিয়েই। সব মিলিয়ে উজ্জ্বল কোনো ভবিষ্যতের ছবি নিজেরাই আঁকতে পারেনি তরুণেরা।বাংলাদেশের অর্থনৈতিক প্রবৃদ্ধি বিশ্বের অনেক দেশের তুলনায় ঈর্ষণীয় হলেও সেই প্রবৃদ্

রাজধানীর মোহাম্মদপুরে মোহাম্মদীয়া হাউজিং এলাকায় নির্মাণাধীন একটি ভবন থেকে মাথার ওপর ইট পড়ে বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের এক ছাত্র গুরুতর আহত হয়েছেন। মো. আখিদুল ইসলাম নামের ওই ছাত্র এখন কোমায় রয়েছেন। তাঁর জীবন সংকটাপন্ন বলে চিকিৎসকেরা জানিয়েছেন। এ ঘটনায় ভবনের মালিক ও তাঁর ছেলেকে আটক করা হয়েছে। আখিদুল ইউনিভার্সিটি অব ডেভেলপমেন্ট অলটারনেটিভের (ইউডা) চারুকলা বিভাগের দ্বিতীয় বর্ষের ছাত্র। স্বজনেরা জানিয়েছেন, গতকাল শুক্রবার বেলা একটার দিকে মোহাম্মদীয়া হাউজিংয়ের ৭ নম্বর রোডের ১/বি নম্বরের বাড়িসংলগ্ন রাস্তা দিয়ে হেঁটে যাচ্ছিলেন আখিদুল। ওই ভবনের তিনতলায় নির্মাণকাজ চলছে। সেখান থেকে একটি ইট তাঁর মাথায় পড়ে। তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে পথচারীরা তাঁকে পঙ্গু হাসপাতালে নেন। পরে সেখান থেকে তাঁকে ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতাল ও পরে স্কয়ার হাসপাতালে নেওয়া হয়। সেখানে অস্ত্রোপচারের পর তাঁকে আইসিইউতে রাখা হয়েছে। এখনো তাঁর জ্ঞান ফেরেনি। চিকিৎসকেরা জানিয়েছেন, আখিদুলের মস্তিষ্ক মারাত্মকভাবে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে। তাঁর অবস্থা সংকটাপন্ন।এ ঘটনায় আখিদুলের দুলাভাই প্রচ্ছদশিল্পী মোস্তাফিজ কারিগর মোহাম্মদপুর থানায় অভিযোগ করেছেন। আহত শিক্ষার্

১২ জুলাই প্রথম আলোয় প্রকাশিত একটি খবর পড়ে শিউরে উঠি। খবরটি এ রকম, মৌলভীবাজারের কুলাউড়া উপজেলার বাগহাল গ্রামে আছকার আলী নামের এক ব্যক্তি তাঁর কিশোরী কন্যাকে ঘুমন্ত অবস্থায় গলা কেটে হত্যা করেছেন। অপছন্দের ছেলের সঙ্গে প্রেম করার অপরাধে তিনি মেয়েকে হত্যা করেন। কী ভয়ংকর ব্যাপার! এত দিন এ ধরনের ঘটনা আমরা পাকিস্তানে ঘটতে দেখেছি। দেশটিতে এ রকম পরিবারের অমতে প্রেম বা বিয়ে করলেই মেয়েদের অঙ্গচ্ছেদ করা হয় বা মেরে ফেলা হয়। পাকিস্তানের এসব ঘটনা কি মৌলভীবাজারের আছকার আলীকে উৎসাহিত করেছে? অস্বাভাবিক কিছু নয়। সে রকম হলে তো ভয়ের কথা। সন্তানেরা এমন অনেক কাজই করে, যা সব সময় মা-বাবার পছন্দ হয় না। পছন্দ না-ই হতে পারে, তাই বলে তাকে মেরে ফেলতে হবে? সন্তানসন্ততি তো কারও ব্যক্তিগত সম্পত্তি নয় যে তাদের সঙ্গে যা খুশি করা যাবে? তাদেরও ইচ্ছা-অনিচ্ছা বলে একটা কথা আছে। কিন্তু অনেক মা-বাবা মনে করেন, ছেলেমেয়েদের নিজেদের ইচ্ছা-অনিচ্ছা বলে কিছু থাকতে পারে না। তাঁদের মনোভাব, ‘সন্তানের আবার ইচ্ছা-অনিচ্ছা কী, আমরা যা বলব, তা-ই হবে’। এর অন্যথা হলেই সন্তানদের জীবনে নেমে আসে বিপর্যয়। সন্তান কী হবে, কী বিষয়ে পড়ালেখা করবে, তার

কুমিল্লার মুরাদনগরে ছিল বাড়ি। ঘরে ছিল অভাবের হানা। জীবন বাঁচানো দায়। আট বছরের ছেলে আর স্বামীকে নিয়ে ফরিদা বেগম ঘরের মায়া ছাড়লেন।  শিকড় গাড়লেন রাঙামাটির বেতবুনিয়ার এই দক্ষিণপাড়া গ্রামে। সেটাই হলো তাঁর নতুন ঠিকানা। তারপর একে একে কেটে গেল ৪৫ বছর। সেই ফরিদার বয়স এখন ৬৭ বছর। ফরিদা আসার আগে এ গ্রামে থিতু হয়েছিলেন তাঁর বড় ভাই আসকর আলী। তাঁর কাছেই খবর পেয়েছিলেন, এ তল্লাটে অনেক ফাঁকা জমি, গাছগাছালি আর বাঁশ অফুরন্ত। এখানে এলে অভাব হবে না। সেই সুদিনের আশাতেই এখানে আসা। ভাইয়ের হাতছানিতে চলে এলেন ফরিদাও। তারপর কেটে গেছে অনেক দিন। স্বামীর চিকিৎসার জন্য মুরাদনগরের একখণ্ড জমি বিক্রি করে দিয়েছিলেন। এখানে বন বিভাগের স্থানীয় কর্মকর্তাকে কিছু অর্থ দিয়ে পেয়েছিলেন জায়গাটুকু। স্বামী মারা গেছেন। এক ছেলে আর দুই মেয়ে নিয়ে একটু একটু করে রাঙামাটির কাউখালী উপজেলার এ গ্রামে গড়ে তুলেছিলেন সংসার। শণের ঘর থেকে বাঁশের ঘর, এরপর মাটিরটা হলো। ছেলে মোহাম্মদ হানিফ বড় হয়ে রোজগেরে হলেন। কখনো দিনমজুরি, কখনোবা ছোট ব্যবসা করেন। মা-ছেলে মিলে কাজ করে সেমিপাকা বাড়িটি গড়েছিলেন। নিজেদের জমানো সবটা অর্থে কুলায়নি, বেসরকারি সংস্থা থেক

আদালতের নির্দেশনা অনুসারে এক শিক্ষকের বেতন ভাতা পরিশোধ না হওয়ায় জাতীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য হারুনুর রশিদের প্রতি আদালত অবমাননার রুল দিয়েছেন উচ্চ আদালত। আদালতের নির্দেশনা অনুসরণ না হওয়ায় কেন তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে আদালত অবমাননার কার্যক্রম শুরু হবে না, তা দুই সপ্তাহের মধ্যে উপাচার্যকে জানাতে বলা হয়েছে।  বিচারপতি মো. আশফাকুল ইসলাম ও বিচারপতি আশিস রঞ্জন দাশের সমন্বয়ে গঠিত হাইকোর্ট বেঞ্চ এক আবেদনের শুনানি নিয়ে আজ মঙ্গলবার এ রুল দেন। আদালতে আবেদনকারী জাতীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রভাষক মো. হাফিজুর রহমানের পক্ষে শুনানিতে ছিলেন আইনজীবী আবদুর রব চৌধুরী ও মো. গিয়াসউদ্দিন। পরে আইনজীবী মো. গিয়াসউদ্দিন আদেশের বিষয়টি জানিয়ে প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, এক রিট আবেদনের পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে ২০১৬ সালের ২২ আগস্ট হাইকোর্ট হাফিজুর রহমানকে জাতীয় বেতনস্কেল ১৯৯৭,২০০৫, ২০০৯ ও ২০১৫ অনুসারে বেতন ভাতা দিতে জাতীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কর্তৃপক্ষকে নির্দেশ দিয়েছিলেন। এ নির্দেশনা প্রতিপালন না হওয়ায় গত ৪ জুন আদালত অবমাননার অভিযোগে আবেদনটি করা হয়। শুনানি নিয়ে আদালত ওই রুল দেন। FACEBOOK
